Protecting a site perimeter from drones calls for a different approach than defending a mobile team or intercepting a single threat. A fixed system runs continuously, covers a wide area, and needs to integrate into the site's overall security setup.
How a fixed system differs from a handheld jammer
A handheld jammer is a reactive tool: an operator spots the threat and switches the device on. A fixed system works differently - it either runs continuously in monitoring-and-jamming mode, or activates automatically when a detector identifies a threat.
Key characteristics of a fixed system:
- Power: 100 W and above combined, giving a radius of 1-3 km in open terrain
- Coverage: omnidirectional or sectoral, using multiple antennas
- Integration: connects to access control, CCTV, and alarm systems
- Reliability: IP65+ enclosures, operation from -40°C to +60°C
Requirements by site type
Industrial plants and warehouses. The main threat is reconnaissance drones scouting the site ahead of an intrusion. Priority: jam 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz (commercial DJI-class quadcopters) plus GPS to disable autopilot navigation. Coverage radius: 300 m for a small site up to 1 km for a large facility.
Military bases and restricted sites. The threat is FPV drones and scouts. Full band coverage is required: 433 MHz, 868-915 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, GPS L1/L2. Multiple independent jamming loops are recommended.
Convoys and temporary positions. Mobile fixed systems mounted on vehicles: installed on a vehicle roof or armored platform, powered from the 12/24 V onboard supply.
Estimating coverage radius
Simplified rule of thumb: jamming radius scales with the square root of power. Quadrupling power roughly doubles the radius. For a 1 km radius in open terrain, you need around 50 W per channel; for 2 km, around 200 W. In built-up areas, expect a loss factor of 2-4x.
Modular fixed systems
For most sites, a modular architecture is the best choice: a base control unit plus swappable frequency modules. This lets you start with the minimum necessary band coverage and expand as the threat changes, without replacing the entire installation.
UAVDefen manufactures modular jammers for fixed installation with operator-interface control. Contact our engineers to size a configuration for your site.
